Encouraging Healthy Eating

What We Do

The nursery offers breakfast to those children who arrive before 8.15 (8.30 in the baby unit). It is usually a choice of cereal or occasionally toast.

Snack time in the morning is FRESH fruit and milk or water.

In the afternoon the nursery supplies a larger snack for example - brioche, cheese and grapes.

In the downstairs area we no longer have a teatime.

Parents supply lunch. Any food which needs to be heated is probed to ensure it reaches the correct temperature - to meet the food handling recommendations. Senior staff have food handling certificates.

A list of foods not suitable for microwave cooking is available from the office.

All food is kept in the fridge.

Please do not send in sweets or chocolates bars. We also ask that you do not send in nuts or eggs (many children have allergic reactions to these products). We currently have several children with severe allergies to these.

The nursery also has a policy showing the food allergens that are in the usual food stuffs we supply for the children during the week. If children /babies have food allergies or intolerances a notice will be displayed in their area so all members of staff are aware of each child in their care.

If it is your child's birthday you may bring in a birthday cake to be shared at snack time but unfortunately, we can only accept shop bought cakes in the box showing a list of ingredients.

The nursery regularly covers the topic of healthy eating and we also have a food tasting session so the children have the opportunity to try new flavours.

As part of our Healthy eating policy we have a folder by the registers with suggested recipes to promote this. You are welcome to take these leaflets for ideas or to borrow our books.
